How Birthday Traditions were started

Where did Cakes come from?
Why do we take those special birthday cakes in the day?
  • Goddess of the Greek moon, used to present cakes in the temple of Artemis. Those round cakes we love representes the full moon.
  • But it was not just Greek who introduced cakes for birthday, the Germans made a cake named Gabertstagort, which was used for birthday.
So now you know why the cake is part of our birthday party!

How did Candles make their debut for birthdays?
  • The Greeks put candles on the round cake brought in Artemis They do this because it reflects the bright moon.
  • The Germans were known for making candles, and they use those small candles which we use today to decorate our cakes and then take them out.
  • some Germans used a large candle in the center of the cake which means 'the light of life'. How appropriate is it to celebrate the arrival of the age.
  • Smoke from the fire will take your desires to heaven, this is the reason why we ask the birthday stars to fulfil their wishes because they carry their candles.
  • Do you know the challenge of trying to blow candles at once? Well, it was clearly done to bring good luck. Even today many people believe that this act will make this wish come true.
Why do we give birthday cards?
  • This tradition started in England 100 years ago and still persists strongly today. Do not forget that card!
Let luck come shining through
  • This is where the flower was given as a gift. But it was not the only flower. The birthplace, flowers which we have said and the colors were all given as gifts of good luck.
Why do we sing 'Happy Birthday to you'?
  • We all sing the old song "Happy Birthday", but where did this come from the world? Well, this traditional song was written by two sisters, Mildred and Patty Hill, all in 1893! Wow, that's a long time ago. Incredibly it was originally written as 'Good morning', and after that, the form was taken as we know today.
Some birthday customs from around the world
  • Japan celebrate all birthdays on January 1. Imagine the whole birthday one day? But nowadays, most Japanese people celebrate their birthday on the same birthday as they were born.
  • In Korea, the most important birthday is that it is a very milestone to reach the age of 1 year. The young are worn in a special garment and is displayed in a large gathering of friends and family. The child is worn in special clothes and is displayed in front of a large crowd of friends and family members. A festival is created and then everyone leaves the money for a birthday child. They believe that the child's future is predicted about what they raise.
  • In China and with India's maharajas, reaching 60 years gained a huge amount of respect for that person, as they've made it to the first cycle of life.
  • As we saw earlier, even today the common traditions we love are coming from Germany, like blowing cakes, parties and candles. Now we know who to thank.
  • In Mexico, they celebrate birthdays in which candy-filled pintas and animals or stars-shaped behaviors. This tradition has been more than 300 years!
  • In many parts of the world, people give their children names after the saints. They celebrate their birthday on that saint's day. Birthday is a secondary celebration, on which day the main focus is on the saint.
